Declutter Your Home and Help Local Residents and Families at This Saturday’s Shred-a-Thon

CHILLIWACK, BC (June 4, 2015) On Saturday Emterra Environmental and co-sponsors; the City of Chilliwack, Cottonwood Mall and Shred-It will host this year’s first Shred-a-Thon at the Cottonwood Mall. Right in time for spring cleanup, the Shred-a-Thon provides residents with the opportunity to bring in personal documents and paperwork so that it can be shredded and recycled at no charge.

As part of this unique event, residents are encouraged to bring in food and cash donations which help the Salvation Army provide support to local individuals and families who require assistance. Emterra matches cash donations up to $2000, to better enhance support and resources for those who need it.

“The community Shred-a-Thon is an amazing event that highlights the fact that we can come together as a community to reduce our impact on the environment and support local residents and families by providing them with donations and assistance,” said Paul Knight, Operations Manager, Chilliwack Division.

Over $3000 in cash donations and 1,500 pounds in non-perishable food items were collected at the last Shred-a-Thon which took place last December. Emterra and its co-sponsors hope to build on this momentum and collect even more donations and divert more paper away from the landfill so that it can be recycled.

Shred-a-Thons are part of Emterra’s Community Care™ Program which seeks to improve the health and well being of the environment and communities across Canada. Since 2009 Emterra has raised over $13,000 in cash donations and has collected over 12,000 pounds in food donations through bi-annual Shred-a-Thons. These special events have also helped to divert over 20 tonnes of paper away from the landfill.
